Verstappen Takes F1 Title Despite Protest

Abu Dhabi Dec 12 2021

Despite two protests lodged by Mercedes over the controversial end to the race at the Yas Marina Circuit, Max Verstappen is announced as the winner and the 2021 drivers' champion.

The Dutchman in his Red Bull Honda overtook current F1 champion Lewis Hamilton on the last lap to win the race and the championship in Abu Dhabi.

Verstappen, who was on softer and fresher tyres, passed Hamilton to claim the one of most dramatic of F1 victories and the world title.

Mercedes argued that Hamilton would have won the race and the championship, and requested an amendment of the race result under the  FIA's International Sporting Code.

They claimed that Verstappen had illegally passed Hamilton behind the safety car before the restart and the decision to bring out the safety car had shortened the race and therefore was not appropriate.

Both protests were dismissed by the FIA.

FIA Race Director Michael Masi brought in the safety car with five laps left after Nicholas Latifi had steered off course and crashed his Williams into the barriers.

Verstappen and Hamilton headed into the final race on equal points in the 2021 F1 season that was filled with controversial incidents.

The British driver has matched Michael Schumacher of 91 grand prix wins but Hamilton failed to surpass the legendary German by winning his eight F1 championship.

Claiming his maiden F1 title, Verstappen is the 34th champion in the series and the first non-Mercedes driver to beat Hamilton since 2014.

Verstappen joins German driver Nico Rosberg who won his sole F1 title in 2016 by also beating Hamilton in that year's championship.

Will they actually lock "Bossku" up and throw away the key? Kuala Lumpur Dec 7 2021   If tomorrow's (Dec 8 2021) ruling on  the  RM42  million  fund   scandal  goes against  "Bossku" or also known as former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,  he can still stay out of jail as he will surely appeal against the verdict. This could result in the case being in limbo and the  process could take years, allowing "Bossku" to take part in the General Election that must be held by 2023. "Bossku" had denied all wrongdoings in the misappropriation of the RM 42 million transferred from   SRC International, a subsidiary of   1Malaysia Development Berhad or 1MDB ,  to his personal accounts. Najib claims that he was misled by financial advisers - pointing his finger towards fugitive financier Jho Low when the former was given the lead responsibility in administrating the country from  2009 to 2018 . Jho Low has been charged in both the US and Ma

SPORTS - Mix-Up Sees New Champions League Last 16

Switzerland Dec 14 2021 It was a mixed bag of results for the four English Premier League representatives in the Champions League when the round of 16 draw was conducted twice last night. The European football governing body UEFA had to conduct the draw twice after an initial “technical mix-up” left Atletico Madrid screaming foul and lodging an official complaint citing unfairness. During the first draw that was later declared void, the software system utilised for the ceremony somehow included Manchester United as a potential opponent for Villarreal. The two sides had played each other in the group stage and should be kept apart in the last 16. When the mistake was pointed out, United’s name was withdrawn. The real blunder happened when United were not reinstated for the next draw to pick the opponents for Atletico. Bayern Munich’s name was drawn to face Atletico, but the Spaniards cried foul because they were deprived of the chance of playing United, and let’s face it, nobody fancies
